• Should investigate the force generated by a jet striking plates (representing turbine vanes)
• The equipment should show the force produced by a jet of water
• It should consist of a transparent cylinder containing a vertically tapered nozzle and a test plate
• The cylinder should be on legs and to be mounted on the top of a hydraulic bench
• The nozzle, supplied by a hydraulic bench, should produce a high-velocity jet of water which hits the test plate
• The test plate should connect to a weight beam assembly with jockey weight which measures the jet force
• Should have a drain tube in the base of the cylinder
• All test plates should be easily interchangeable, taking only a few seconds and needing no tools

Experimental Capabilities:

• Measurement of the impact force on flat and hemispherical plates and comparison with momentum change
• Measurement of the impact force on an angled flat plate & conical plate and comparison with momentum change

• Flat plate : 74mm dia or higher, normal to and coincident with the jet axis
• Hemispherical plate : 60mm diameter or higher
• Conical plate : Minimum 75mm dia 120°
• Angled plate : Minimum 75mm dia 30°
• Jockey weight : Minimum 600g
• Weight beam scale : 250mm or higher in 1mm divisions
• Nominal nozzle diameter : 10mm or higher
• Nominal distance from nozzle tip to impact point on vane : 35mm or higher
• Should be supplied with all necessary pipe clips, tubing and printed operation manual
