Apparatus Design:
The setup consists of a transparent cylindrical tank, within which a circular plate is rotated using a variable-speed motor. The rotation is achieved through a V-belt drive, creating a forced vortex as the cylinder spins about its vertical axis. -
Measurement Mechanism:
An adjustable upper probe is provided, capable of horizontal and vertical movement across the full diameter of the vessel. Both movement axes are marked with graduations to accurately determine the probe’s position. -
Experimental Objective:
The experiment involves measuring the profile of the free surface, which represents the variation in the sum of the pressure head and datum head due to the vortex motion. -
Drainage System:
A built-in drainage arrangement is included to allow easy emptying of the vessel after the experiment.
