General Features:

  • Cylindrical Tank: Equipped with an adjustable diffuser to demonstrate flow through various orifices at different flow rates.

  • Flow Measurements: Enables students to measure:

    • Decrease in flow

    • Stream contraction

    • Energy loss

  • Orifice Studies: Allows the study of different shapes of orifices.

  • Transparent Tank: Features a transparent cylindrical tank with a mounting base for easy replacement of different orifices.

  • Pre-mounted Orifice: Supplied with a sharp-edged orifice already mounted for immediate use.

  • Flow Rate Control: The water level can be adjusted via a flow rate control and an overflow pipe.

  • Water Flow: Water exits the tank through the orifice.

  • Pitot Assembly: Includes a sharp blade and a Pitot tube that can be positioned anywhere in the jet to measure various flow characteristics.

    • The blade is used to accurately measure the jet diameter.

  • Manometer Connections: Manometers are connected to the Pitot tube and to a tapping in the base of the cylindrical tank to measure the total head at the orifice and within the jet.

  • Investigation of different orifices over a range of flow rates, including:

    • Determination of contraction and velocity coefficients

    • Calculation of the discharge coefficient

    • Comparison of the actual discharge coefficient with calculated values
